I'm not sure if this is the right place to talk about this, but does anyone else have an active local queer community that constantly arranges events that they find it almost impossible to be involved in due to other parts of their identity?

For example, I just got emailed about two events: a fundraising quiz (for our local pride event) and a cinema trip. I also have hearing problems. The last time I went to one of the quizzes, I couldn't hear any of the questions due to background noise, and watching films without subtitles is a nightmare for me.

I just don't know what to do. These are fairly regular events, that I just can't be a part of, and it's really upsetting.

Not sure why this post is tagged as NSFW.

Anyway, if these orgs have meetings, go along and let them know that they need to be more inclusive. Or send the organisers emails, ditto. For example, with the quiz night, surely they could hold it in a venue that doesn't doesn't have too much sound going on in the background, or use a PA that will cut through the noise.

This is an awesome place to talk about this. :)

I agree with the idea of e-mailing... It would be nice if they were aware of the problem already, but that's rarely the case, so at least maybe this way it will get someone thinking about things they could do to make things better for you.
